Production of Steel Molds for Aluminum Injection
Die-making studies and manufactures molds suitable for producing parts in series. We are a factory specializing in molds for aluminum injection. Creating a mold requires great precision, the use of highly complex machinery, and the good training and experience of the die-maker. These manufacturing processes in die-making become cost-effective when producing large quantities of parts. This compensates for the cost of creating the mold, allowing for the casting of aluminum and the production of a high number of parts in series.
We perform a series of tasks to ensure the proper machining of each mold component, including:
Sending Data to the Milling Machine
Once the specific programs with all the operations are generated, they are sent to the corresponding numerical control milling machine for execution. This die-making process is long and tedious because the milling machinery cannot handle infinite programming for the mold creation. Depending on the size of the programs, we can send more or fewer operations.
Tooling and Clamping for Each Piece
Before beginning the machining of the mold, it is essential to secure the piece. In die-making, it is crucial to anchor the piece to the worktable without any possibility of movement.
Offset of the Mold Before Machining
Once the piece is securely clamped to the table and the programs are ready to be executed, the origin of the piece must be located. We input the origin with the coordinates of the exact point we want.
Precise Machining of the Steel Mold
Machining begins with a chip vacuum to observe the geometries of the piece conveniently. If something doesn’t go as planned, we must interrupt the process and analyze the situation. Water is used to prevent wear and imperfections that could arise from overheating. We have CNC machining centers, sinker EDM, and CAM programs necessary to tackle highly complex molds, achieving maximum precision and optimal performance throughout the mold’s development. With our entire technical and human team, we provide molds with the appropriate finish and estimated deadlines.
Adjustment of the Injection Mold Components
Once manufactured, the components of the mold are assembled to verify their viability. Imperfections can occur during machining, so it is crucial to have effective diagnostic systems to correct these anomalies. Our presses are 2500 by 1500 in size to adequately meet the size requirements of our molds.
Finishing and Polishing of the Steel Mold Surfaces
In a subsequent adjustment phase, the mold pieces are polished to eliminate any defects in the creation of subsequent parts. We check the dimensions of the mold’s impressions, proceeding with polishing, assembly, and final verification.
Aluminum Die-Making
An aluminum die, designed with the desired shape, is filled with molten metal on its inner surface. As it cools and solidifies within this die, the desired metal part is formed. The most important and complex aspect, which our die-making company focuses on, is the ability to reproduce geometries and internal surfaces with exact precision to achieve the desired part upon filling.
Using our CAD-CAM tools, filling simulator, CNC milling, CNC erosion, and final adjustment and finishing, we achieve high-quality aluminum products.
Die for Producing Parts
Injection molding allows the low-cost production of numerous products with diverse sizes and shapes that would be difficult to achieve with other manufacturing processes. With a well-made die, we can achieve very precise results and work with highly complex materials.
Advantages of Steel Mold Production for Aluminum Injection
Thanks to high production rates, low costs, design precision, 3D accuracy, good surface finish, and the ability to reproduce small details, die-making has become the preferred method for producing multiple products. Mold production offers extraordinary dimensional accuracy and a surface quality that generally does not require further machining, except for minor deburring, drilling, and threading operations.
Aluminum Injection Casting Requires a Precise Steel Mold
One of the challenges is the difficulty of fabricating the die. It requires sophisticated machinery to meet the demands of current projects. However, technological advancements have mitigated this challenge, as the surface finishes of the obtained parts require less machining, thanks to the excellent preparation of the multidisciplinary human team and the quality of the machines used in die production. With new diagnostic systems, we can detect small defects in the mold’s interior surfaces.
Materials Used for Producing Steel Molds for Aluminum Casting
The most commonly used material for injection mold production is steel. We generally use pre-hardened steel to ensure optimal resistance and mechanical toughness. For aluminum injection, high thermal fatigue-resistant steel is used.
